The Canberra Hospital Expansion delivered a nine-level Critical Services Building, known as Building 5, and is the largest health infrastructure project the ACT Government has undertaken. Burgtec supplied the workstations, task seating and soft seating package throughout admin and clinical areas, including nurse stations. Designed by BVN and built by Multiplex for Canberra Health Services, the building houses the emergency department, intensive care, operating theatres, cardiac care and inpatient wards, and is Australia's first all-electric hospital building, running on 100% renewable energy. With 1,200 hours of community consultation shaping the design, the furniture needed to hold up to constant clinical use while supporting the calm, wellbeing-led feel of spaces like the Welcome Hall.
