The Store, Newcastle

The Store is Newcastle's largest office building and a NSW Government workplace hub bringing multiple agencies into one location on the site of the former Newcastle and Suburban Co-operative Society. Burgtec designed, manufactured and installed 1,100 workstations across eight floors and more than 9,400m2 of workspace on a 16-week program, serving Transport for NSW, Planning, Industry, Environment and Service NSW. The Bates Smart design covers open offices, meeting rooms, breakout areas, concierge and collaboration spaces in a building rated 5-star Green Star and 5-star NABERS Energy. The real challenge was modifying standard designs to satisfy the differing ergonomic standards of every agency, at that production scale, on a short lead time.
