A new frontier:
Burgtec at WSI Airport

Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport is Australia's first major greenfield airport in more than 50 years, and when it opens in the second half of 2026 will become Sydney's only 24/7 gateway. For Burgtec, it represents not only a prestigious commission but also a step into a new arena: public furniture.

Project details

Location: Luddenham, NSW. Completed 2025. Builder: Multiplex. Architects: Woods Bagot, Cox Architecture, Zaha Hadid Architects. Scope: Terminal furniture across departure gates, retail and food and beverage areas.

"WSI is a major milestone for Burgtec. It marks a genuine shift — from our traditional focus on workplace furniture into the broader world of public space." — Joel Kennard, Director

Why WSI matters

The airport commission pushed Burgtec's capabilities into new territory. Public furniture at this scale demands engineering for extreme durability, compliance with aviation authority standards, and seamless coordination with some of the world's most respected architectural firms. Every piece needed to perform beautifully while handling thousands of people every day.

A benchmark for public space

The WSI project sets a new benchmark for what Burgtec can deliver in high-traffic public environments — and opens the door to more commissions at the intersection of architecture, public space and Australian manufacturing.

At Burgtec, custom comes standard. Let's build what you need, together.
